Truffle100.com publishes a list of top 100 software companies in Europe for each year. Since 2008, they have been making lists of IT companies that have a headquarter in any European country and ordered them by a profit made in the previous year from selling software and services.
They have done it since 2008 and all those historical reports are available for viewing as well. Do you know which one is the biggest now and which one was in the past? Are you curious which countries dominated the IT market in Europe? Answers to all those questions can be found in the report.
Top software vendors
According to the ranking, the king in Europe is only one - SAP from Germany with 17 243.9 million € revenue from software and services in 2014. Did I wrote a king? That was unfair, SAP demolished the competitors. The second on the list Dassault Systemes from France made 2 078.6 million € which is a lot but only 12% of the SAP's result.
A quick look at the ranking 2008 and it clearly shows that it was not an exceptional result. SAP dominated for all those years.
As the first place has not changed, let's take a look at what has changed in the top 10 since 2008 till now.

While the first position has not been threatened, each of the next nine has changed. New companies in the top 10 are: Hexagon (Sweden), Wincor Nixdorf (Germany), Asseco Group (Poland), DATEV (Germany), Wolters Kluwer (Netherlands).
Top countries
On the countries ranking, Germany is placed on the top with 49.8% of total revenue made by all companies from the top 100 ranking. That is slightly more than 7 years earlier. In the ranking 2008 it was 48.1% (http://www.truffle100.com/2008/profitability.php).
In my opinion, this ranking shows which companies are the strongest power in the European IT and which countries host the biggest IT companies. An important observation is a fact that this list does not change much year to year, but over 7 years main players have been shuffled. Small companies, even if there are a lot of them in one country, are not visible in this ranking is a different story. But it is a ranking of companies not countries so that is fine.
